Latin text, folio in sixes, approximately 320 x 205 mm, 12½ x 8¼ inches, printer's device on title page, woodcut genealogical tables and historiated initials in text, early large engraved portrait of the author mounted on blank facing title page, pages: [8], 1-192; [12], 1-99, [1], [12], the 12 pages of index and errata to the first 5 books have been misplaced by the binder after Book 6 (R1-6), complete with the Dedication to Philip II of Spain, sometimes excised, bound in full old calf, narrow blind tooled border to covers, rebacked at some time with earlier gilt decorated backstrip laid on, new leather showing at head and tail and on hinges, recent gilt lettered red morocco label, all edges red, marbled endpapers. Boards slightly worn and marked, neat repairs to corners, front inner paper hinge partly cracked, rear endpapers worn, soiled and chipped, name with date 1896 on second blank, first title page slightly dusty, occasional pale damp staining or light spotting to margins, small pale ink stain on 1 text page, all legible, pale age-browning throughout, neat 1 word note in 2 margins, index leaves at rear damp stained all over, easily legible. A good sturdy copy mostly clean. Pontus Huyter or Heuterus, was a historian and philologist of Delft in the Netherlands (1535-1602). This is the first edition of the history of the Burgundian Netherlands in five books, from Philip the Bold (1334) to Charles the Bold (1477), with an introductory chapter on Burgundy.
