Report on the Geology of the State of Connecticut by Percival, James Gates, 1795-1856 - 1842

New Haven: Osborn and Baldwin, 1842. Octavo. 495 pages, folding map. Percival was a leading geologist who was commissioned in 1835 by the governor of Connecticut to prepare a geological survey of the state which took him seven years to complete but the finished copy still is a classic on the region. The index at the back of the book lists the towns as well as the errata on four items. Bound in publisher's black embossed cloth, spine lettering gilt, wear to corners with chipping to spine ends, scattered foxing throughout but quite readable, map does have wrinkles to edges but no tears. Very scarce in the original edition.
