About This Item

New York: Aqueduct Commissioners, 1887. First edition. Hardcover. Good + condition. A presentation copy from John Newton, who served as Aqueduct Commissioner and as Commissioner of Public Works, of the report on the construction of the New Croton Aqueduct. A printed presentation plate is tipped in at front free endpaper, "Compliments of John Newton".

The aqueduct replaced the existing water supply for New York City, which was the Old Croton Aqueduct. The Report is illustrated with photogravures of the aqueduct under construction.

The New Croton Aqueduct still supplies water to the city today. It is one of 3 supply systems and runs from the New Croton Reservoir (Westchester County) to the Jerome Park Reservoir in the Bronx.

Folio, frontispiece, 23 photogravure plates, folding tables, 4 maps, blueprints. Bound in presentation full brown gilt leather, corners rubbed, spine ends chipped, otherwise sound. OCLC: 977564819.
