About This Item
1807, hardcover. Hazlitt's political philosophy of individual good and sympathy with others leads to self-control of population--as opposed to Malthus' concept that only imposed starvation and misery keep the poor from over-populating. [John Kinnaird and Hazlitt letters] -- Hardcover, later binding, 3/4 blue leather over marbled boards, gilt spine decoration, raised bands, top edge gilt, pages irregularly trimmed. -- Condition: very good (leather is rubbed at bands and edges; spine color a bit faded; marginal notes to a few early pages "18 Aug 1810"). -- Author (unattributed in this book) is William Hazlitt, 1778-1830. Pagination: iv, [3] - 40, 43 - 378; [6] pages of publisher's ads. Complete and collated as per Geoffrey Keynes "C8 has been cancelled ... pp.41-42 missing."
