Also there are maps of the territories. It includes a section of the major poetry of the war with over 100 poems ranging from "Remember the Maine" to "Teddy's Terrors" to the remarkable "The Negro Soldier" which began: "We used to think the negro didn't count for very much, light-fingered in the melon patch and such." It goes on to note the heroic actions "The negro soldier showed himself another type of man, read the story of his courage, coldly, carelessly, who can, the story of the Tenth at Lac Quasina!" and "We're all Yankees Now" where the author notes it is no longer Yankee or Reb but Americans fighting together on behalf of the United States. Beginning near the end there is Col. Roosevelt's Account of the Battle of San Juan." Bound in green pictorial cloth lettered in gilt, pictorial spine, accented in red, blue and white, floral endpapers, all edges marbled, minor wear to spine ends and corners. A very nice copy.
