Solid and Near Fine (tasteful former owner bookplate at the front pastedown) in a crisp, price-intact, VG dustjacket, with light chipping --and several small closed tears-- along the panel edges, including light chipping to the spine crown. In a long and varied career, Major-General Greely led, among other things, the Arctic expedition of 1881 to 1884 (the "Lady Franklin Bay Expedition" ) and the "International Polar Expedition"

Otherwise, boards and pages are clean, unmarked (except for small wormhole at top corner of first few pages), bright, tightly bound and sharp cornered. Scarce, Out Of Print, Book. Contains frontispiece and sixteen additional full-page black & white photograph illustrations. "Raised by hard-working and enlightened parents in the classical tradition of a New England whaling town, and educated in the public schools, Greely early acquired a foundation in such stern Yankee virtues as honor, piety, industry, and love of country.
