Third edition in two volumes, 344pp., illustrated by Samuel Alken with 17 illustrations, 362pp. 14 oval tinted engravings and full page etchings and 1 folding map of the forest. The tinting (aquatint or wash) was the author's way of taking away the glaring rawness of the white paper and to harmonize by a mellow tint, the unpleasant opposition of black and white which are quite striking. Bound in full calf, spines lettered in gilt, red morocco spine labels gilt. Upper joints cracked, inner hinges nearly cracked but holding fine. Internally clean with the exception of some off-setting from plates. (Sold as is).
