Description:
1720 ALIENS Prodigies Superstition Astrology UFOs! Wonders ROME Julius ObsequensJulius Obsequens was a 5th-century Roman author who is primarily known for his book of Prodigies, or 'Prodigiorum Liber'. This book is a collection of writings on natural wonders, signs, and calamities that occurred during the 3rd century BC in the Roman Republic. Curiously, much of what Obsequens observed was already recorded by Livy and thus wasn't taken as seriously. However, the work is still popular today for its discussion on superstitions and instances of numerous astrological signs – even reports of ancient aliens and UFOs!
This 1720 edition was published in Leiden by Samuel Luchtmans.

Description:
1644 1st ed Meteorologia Resta Meteorology Weather Physics Earthquake AristotleThe most complete treatise on meteorology!
Francesco Resta's 'Meteorologia' is a rare 17th-century treatise on weather and its effects on the earth. In this work, Resta sought to formalize many of his hypotheses about meteorology and prove his speculations about rain, fire, meteors, vapors and air, all through the lens of Aristotle's ancient treatise 'Meteorologica'. This book even discusses rainbows, earthquakes, oceans, natural springs, comets, and according to L.C. Claassen, this book was "the most complete treatise on meteorology then published!"

Description:
Binding is generally fresh and clean with only minor signs of wear. There is a "bubble" on the face hard by the spine near the top. The dust jacket is price clipped and shows general rubbing, wrinkling, edge & hinge wear etc. About 12mm of the jacket head cap is chipped away(now since replaced with removable 'matching' backing complete with missing title portion; not perfect in execution but perhaps better than looking upon a large chunk of white paper!); the tail also shows chipping and splitting along the hinges(this area also has matching backing paper to fill in). A 13 mm tear is present on the upper edge of the front wrap. No tape repairs/re-enforcements. The front end papers contain some very faint spotting. Interior pages are clean. Most leaves are unopened: (12 "signatures"). Paper is almost like card stock and is beautifully letterpress printed by the estimable firm of Jarrolds & Sons. A NF antiquarian conditon book with a more than acceptable wrapper(at least Good+).Inv. # 63645 OAMS* bds 9/2023
