D.S. Chamber's "Spas in the Italian Renaissance" covers the 13th-16th centuries in terms of the revival of ancient medical science in Padua and Bologna. It concludes with the article by Gordon Campbell, "Popular Ideas of God in the Renaissance." This last article will be thought-provoking to those who know at least the outlines of historical theology as the humanists and especially Milton dealt with the ideas without building upon the most obscure aspects of the medieval synthesis.
