Green cloth cover is bright and clean. The age darkened, edgeworn jacket has a little chipping at the top ( title lettering O.K. ), and is missing an inch and three quarters of the spine foot, incl. publisher name. Nonetheless, a very acceptable copy of the true first edition, that is becoming quite uncommon..

Though considered rare, we have acquired multiple copies thanks to our purchase of an estate. 8vo, stapled paper covers; good+ (covers soiled and waterstained; crease to front and rear covers; edgeworn; bound ends worn; pages toned); 9pp.

Limited first edition. Art and design by John H. Flores. Poetry by Thomas Hornsby Ferril. The Westerners is an organization that is focused primarily on western history. A limited edition in hardback with no jacket. This is copy number 713 of 1000. Book is Very Good to Near Fine with some wear at spine ends, and with a shallow dimple on the spine near the top. The book was dedicated to Fred Rosenstock who was a well-known book dealer in Denver. He opened his first store in 1922, and in 1962 opened Fred A. Rosenstock Books on East Colfax’s Book Row. He specialized in western history. This was a presentation copy from Rosenstock to a friend, as per written gift inscription on the half title page. Signed by Rosenstock and dated Sept. 5 – 1975. Rosenstck wrote a chapter for this book. He was the subject of a biography written by Donald E. Bower, Foreword by Frank Waters, and published by Northland Press.

The first Westerners Publication with a list of its illustrious membership including Wright Howes, Everett Graff (who also has an important article on the rarest Western travel narratives), and the historians who wrote the classics on Western Americana (especially his tale of how Mrs. Wright Howes and he had played a joke on Wright Howes on the very rare 1843 Joseph Wlliams pamphlet. Printed and bound by John F. Cuneo Co. in gray cloth centrally stamped in gilt with their logo a steer with lettering gilt, spine lettering gilt. A very nice copy.

Adina De Zavala led the opposition to tearing down portions of the Alamo "in a resolute and voluble stand" and was instrumental in the preservation of portions of the original wall of the convent. In fact, she barricaded herself inside the north barrack of the Alamo for three days in February 1908 to protest its destruction. In 1912 she organized the Texas Historical and Landmarks Association, which placed thirty-eight markers at historic sites in Texas. She probably did more than any other one person in stirring interest in the preservation of the Spanish Governor's Palace in San Antonio. – Handbook of Texas.
