Real Boys: Rescuing Our Sons from the Myths of Boyhood

by Pollack, William

Condition: Very Good

NY .: Henry Holt & Co., 1999. Book. Very Good. Trade Paperback. 5th Printing... 447 pp., bibliography. Nearly new, faint crease on spine. No markings. Very sturdy. The author, coordinator of the Center for Men at McLean Hospital, Boston, summarizes research showing that many boys are seriously affected by anxiety, sometimes close to depression. His diagnosis is that parents are overemphasizing toughness in their sons and neglecting their emotional needs. In short, he says boys need as much emotional nurturing as girls. Excellent chapter on dealing with the possibility that a son may be gay. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
