Description:
1696 Hebrew Republic Judaism Judaica Republican Government Semitism CunaeusPetrus Cunaeus was an early 17th-century Dutch scholar whose 'Hebrew Republic' is considered, according to Tuck, "the most powerful statement of republican theory in the early years of the Dutch Republic." (Tuck, 169)
"De Republica Hebraeorum" describes ancient Hebrew kingdoms and portrays it as the model of republican governments. This book was highly influential on the formation of the Dutch Republic, even though Cunaeus foresaw the Dutch government falling just as Rome did. Ultimately, Cunaeus sought for the book to instill tolerance toward 17th-century Jews through the publication of 'Republica.'
This 1696 edition features a charming full-page frontispiece.

1797 RARE & Important Judaica Livorno Italy Jewish Sefer Mikdash Hebrew PrayerA rare, 18th-century Jewish prayer book entitled 'Sefer Avodat Mikdash'. This book, published in Livorno, Italy in 1797, was a study into the behaviors expected in a Jewish synagogue and temple – or simply a Jewish guide to sanctuary. Notably, Livorno became a hub for Jewish immigrants in the 17th-century and their presence only grew throughout the Medici rulership. Curiously though, it wasn't until 1780, when Livorno government reorganized, that Jews were declared eligible for various positions in the general court. Because of this rise in status, Jewish books became more prominent – including this 1797 published work.Item number: #10774Price: $750Traditional Mikdashספר עבודת מקדש - קול תפלה קול תחנה… [Sefer Avodat Mikdash][Livorno, Italy: 5557 (or 1797)].Details: • Collation: Complete• Language: Hebrew• Binding: Leather; secure• Size: ~6in X 4in (16cm x 10cm)• Very rareOur…

1765 Hebrew SEFER Ohel Mosheh Zalkva UKRAINE Zhovkva Zvi Hirsh Commentary JewishA rare 18th-century Hebrew printing of the 'Sefer Ohel Mosheh' published in Zalkva, Ukraine. This exceedingly rare edition of Hebrew scripture text includes notes and commentary by Zalkva Rabbi Moshe Ben-Zvi Hirsh. More commonly known as Zhovkva today, Zalkva housed an important Jewish printing house from which this sefer was published.
This particular sefer discusses the use of Hebrew language and grammar in conjunction with scripture.
Worth noting, the town of Zalkva was under Nazi occupation during World War II, and nearly all of the 4500 Jewish residents were sentenced to extermination camps and the Jewish synagogue was destroyed.

Description:
1789 Buxtorf HEBREW & Latin Jewish Bible Lexicon Dictionary Judaica Rabbinica 4vA rare 17th-century Hebrew / Latin lexicon and Old Testament concordance.
Originally started in 1607, Johann Buxtorf began working on a Hebrew lexicon. However, this work was one of the few works of his that had to be completed by other writers, mainly his son. This dictionary was published multiple times throughout the next two centuries and would become the basis for many 19th-century Hebrew concordances. This work serves as a reference tool for Old Testament research particularly the Pentateuch.
This 1789 Rome edition was published in four volumes by Zempel.

Description:
1725 Jewish History Calmet JEWS + Bible Commentary Holy Land MAPS JerusalemAntoine Augustin Calmet was a 17th-century French Benedictine monk who is most remembered today for his commentary and notes on the Bible. This commentary was highly regarded, not just by Catholics but by Protestants as well. Calmet's commentary created new ways of biblical interpretation, new methods of exegesis, and individual prefaces to each book. Interestingly, he vehemently avoided using metaphysical and mystical interpretations of scripture.
This commentary was the foundation for many of his other works, including his 'History of Jews in the Old and New Testament'. This 1725 edition includes an introductory history of the church by Abby Fleury, along with seven impressive folding maps and plans:
·
Map of Ancient World
·
Map of "Earthly Paradise" or "The Promised Land"
·
Map of Israelite's journey
·
Solomon's Temple

1655 1ed Treatise on HATS Jesuit Raynaud Bishop Headwear Jewish Rabbis CrownsTheophile Raynaud was a 17th-century Jesuit theologian who is known for his extensive portfolio of religious based works. Curiously, he also published an interesting treatise on the history of hats! 'Tractatus de Pileo' covers a wide variety of topics relating to hats and headpieces, and because of his relationship to the church, Raynaud extensively discusses the roles of headwear within the church and religious ceremonies. He covers the sacred hats worn by Catholic bishops and cardinals, hats worn by Jewish rabbis, French royal crowns, female headdresses, and much more.
