Good binding and cover. Large tear to jacket. Dust jacket in protective mylar cover. Clean, unmarked pages. <br> Fred was one of the leaders of the group called The Ravens. He flew over 700 missions and reached hero status, being awarded 48 medals including the Distinguished Flying Cross with two Oak Leaf Clusters and his most prized Silver Star; the picture above shows him receiving that award at age 29 from Major General Paul Stoney. Most who serve in the military and are fortunate enough to survive an injury, do receive a Purple Heart; Fred received three of them!! He crashlanded multiple times when his plane was hit by enemy fire, but the last crash left him with a severe neck injury which would plague him the rest of his life.
