A 1" piece torn from bottom corner of title page. Gilt rubbed off to titles on spine. Silver and black art deco design to front of black leather-like boards. Sepia illustration to frontispiece with tissue overlay. Clean, tight. 278 pp. This is one book of a six-volume set. A whodunit mystery novel which introduces the series character, Detective Colonel Anthony Gethryn. It is set in a country house in rural England. Gethryn, ex-secret service agent, investigates the murder of cabinet minister, John Hoode who is found battered to death with a wood-rasp.
