About This Item

Glasgow: Fontana/Collins, 1977. First Thus. . Mass Market Paperback. Very Good. The second novel in Pope's highly-praised 18-book series of historical sea warfare fiction set in the late 17th-early 18th century and featuring British Lt. Nicholas Ramage and his tiny cutter, "HMS Kathleen." The cutter is assigned as courier to British forces at Gibralter in the days before the naval battle of Cape St. Vincent between the English and Spanish fleets. First printing, first paperback edition, a first edition thus. Mass market paperback, 253 pages, wrap-around pictorial covers showing 17th century naval warfare scene with title in blue, author in black lettering. Wrappers show only light reading crease, minimal spine lean. No tears, scratches or bumped corners. Text shows age-tanned margins, o/w complete, clean and unmarked. Not ex-library, not remaindered. A collectable first edition copy from an author who, after surviving a German torpedo attack during WWII, spent most of his writing life at sea.
