About This Item

London: Longmans, Green, and Co, 1887. Second Edition. Original Cloth. Very Good Plus/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" Large. Sturgess, F. viiipp; 419pp. A charming copy of this second edition from The Badminton Library. Decoraative cloth boards with gitl embossed authors names and vignette of a horses head to the spine. There is a prize presentation bookplate to the front paste down from Wellingboro' Lawn Tennis Tournament, August 5th, 1889 - Gentlemen's Singles Handicap First Prize, Basil L. Thompson. Numerous sketches throughout illustrate the text and a colour frontispiece plate as called for. There are bumps to the head and tail of the spine and three board corners are a little turned in. Slight splitting to the front and rear inner hinges - the boards are firm and tight. Some foxing to the upper fore edges and the rear blank page. There is a short tear of 1 cm to the head of the title page, now expertly repaired and a slight chip adjacent to the tear. Clean and tight. A very good well preserved, bright tight copy.
