About This Item
London and New York: Frederick Warne & Co, 1908. First edition. Hardcover. Arthur Twidle. 441pp. Octavo [20 cm] Red cloth covered boards with decorative red ink stamped designs on the covers, a gilt stamped title bordered by single gilt ruled lines on the spine, and a gilt stamped title in a white panel and gilt borders on the front cover. Very good. The extremities are bumped, and the spine and edges of the covers are sunned. Minor soiling on the boards. The rear hinge is just a little shaky. There is a small label on the front pastedown, and there is a contemporary owner's inscription, along with a small stain, on the front free endsheet. The owner's inscription is offset on the half title page. The endsheets and flyleaves are darkened, and the pages are tanned. Sporadic light foxing throughout the pages. In Hubin. With original illustrations by Arthur Twidle. An early detective novel.
