1952. Royal 1952 Christmas Card bearing an image of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip with young Prince Charles and Princess Anne. Signed by Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip, "Elizabeth R" and "Philip". 1952 was a tumultuous year for the royal family, Elizabeth and Philip were sent on a tour of Australia and New Zealand by way of Kenya in place of Elizabeth's ailing father, King George VI, during which word arrived of the death of the King and consequently Elizabeth's immediate accession to the throne. The 1952 card also marked the first appearance of Charles and Anne. In near fine condition. Rare and desirable. Elizabeth II has been Queen of the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand since 6 February 1952. She ascended the throne at the age of 25, upon the death of her father, King George VI, on 6 February 1952, and was proclaimed queen by her various privy and executive councils shortly afterwards. The coronation took place more than a year later on June 2, 1953 because of the tradition that holding such a festival is inappropriate during the period of mourning that follows the death of a monarch.
