Description:
Petersham, MA: Lone Oak Press, 2005. Esser, Mark. Oblong quarto. 89pp. From an edition of fourteen deluxe copies and 70 standard copies, this is one of five deluxe copies chosen to be specially bound for the international traveling exhibit "InsideOUT: Contemporary Bindings of Private Press Books," and as such, it does not include the extra suite or block as listed on the colophon. The exhibit, organized by British binding society Designer Bookbinders, married the works of nine private presses with the artistry of 59 binders from the United Kingdom and the United States. The text consists of selections from Henry David Thoreau's journal, which describe the vernal pools of New England that serve as breeding habitats for all manner of amphibians. Accompanying the text are twenty-eight engravings by Lone Oak Press founder Abigail Rorer, some of which are hand-colored by the artist. The detailed drawings brilliantly capture the teeming life and varied textures of these small pools. The book was designed…

London: Medici Society, 1970. Greenhill, Elizabeth. Small folio. (266) pp. One of 1050 copies signed by Francis Russell Flint, the artist's son. This richly illustrated work covers the varied career of this Scots artist, perhaps best known for his work with the Riccardi Press. It was published on what would have been Flint's 90th birthday, in accordance with his wishes; but he passed away just five months shy of that milestone. This book has been specially bound by Elizabeth Greenhill in full blue Oasis, featuring her characteristic "cloud" design comprised of multi-colored onlays. Here, the onlays are turquoise, black, green, pale red, and gray. These are interspersed with small straight horizontal lines tooled in gilt. Spine title in gilt. A.e.g. Greenhill credits John Harthan with coining the term "cloud" to describe her most typical binding style. He notes that this treatment is most often given to poetry, and that the variations in design and color "establish the binder's personal reaction to specific texts." In the present example, which was bound in 1971, the small gilt lines streaking across both panels almost seem like a horizontal rain against these colorful formations. Very fine in morocco-backed folding case. (Catalogue Raisonné 62).

Description:
New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons / The Knickerbocker Press, 1927. Half-Leather. Very Good/No Jacket. Corners a bit rubbed, boards faintly soiled, ink date and owner bookplate of Robert N. Cherry on front flyleaf. 1927 Half-Leather. iv, 325 pp. 8vo. No binder's ticket, but appears to be a contemporary custom rebinding: blue leather spine and corners over blue cloth, gilt titles and rules, top edge gilt, new end sheets. "The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin is the traditional name for the unfinished record of his own life written by Benjamin Franklin from 1771 to 1790; however, Franklin himself appears to have called the work his Memoirs. Although it had a tortuous publication history after Franklin's death, this work has become one of the most famous and influential examples of an autobiography ever written. Franklin's account of his life is divided into four parts, reflecting the different periods at which he wrote them.
