Very Good. Unfolded, program measures 18 x 6.25 inches. On one side is a program of numerous films to be shown at Ochestra Hall in Chicago, January 12, 19, 26, 1908. On the other, more densely printed side are decorative pictorial banner captions advertising the realism and quality of Howe's moving pictures. Howe, based in Wilkes-Barre PA, began producing and showing films in the early 1900s using a projector that he himself developed that utilized a second reel pickup, which allowed for longer films. Howe was the first to use a phonograph to supply sound effects and also the first to employ backstage crews to enhance films with sound effects. Even after the rise of the nickleodeon in 1905-1910, which put a good many of Howe's competitors out of business, the quality of his films and his own innovations kept him in business. This program features a Grand Prix auto race at Dieppe, Elks' Parade in Philadelphia, "In Darkest Africa," The Runaway Automobile, "The Greatest Naval Display Ever Photographed," The Village Fire Brigade, A New Drill by the Reedham Orphans, and quite a few other films.
