About This Item
The Viking Press, publishers, New York 1974 hardcover, 5¾" x 8¼" (lacking jacket) Green tinted top edges to pages. Minor sun fading to spine. Book in VERY GOOD condition At the time the American Revolutionary War, it was rumoured that certain Virginian gentlemen, distrusting both rule from London and American republicism, had invited Prince Charles Edward to become ruler of the province of Virginia. Such men were, presumably, anti-republican Tories of the stamp of William Byrd III or John Randolph. The Prince, over fifty years old and much the worse for drink, declined the offer. Though this novel alters particular events, it does not alter the most important underlying situations - some facts and quotations are authentic.
