About This Item

Crescent Books, Inc, New York, No date. Reprint. Hardcover. Good/Good. Illustrator: Photographic and Maps. 1.4 kg.; (8) 9-288 pages, introduction by author, notes on author and photographers and index. The text is illustrated with 212 photographs, both colour and black and white and 14 maps. Brown coloured boards with silver embossed decoration to the front and rear panel and gilt titles to the backstrip. Minor rubbing to the book corners and backstrip corners. Faint foxing to the first few and last few pages of the book and light age toning of the internal text. Colour photographic dustwrapper, showing a Masai warrior white titles to the front panel and black titles to the backstrip. Rubbing to the dustwrapper edges and dustwrapper panels. There is a 0.25 " tear to the top left-hand corner of the rear dustwrapper panel with an associated creasing that runs the full width of the rear dustwrapper panel. Original bookseller's sticker still in situ, lower right-hand corner of the front fold over panel. There is no obvious publication data but given the book's production and reproduction of the photographs late 1950s or early 1960s would be a good guess. A look at "primitive peoples" throughout the world in the middle part of the 20th century. The author looks in detail at 14 Tribes throughout the world, including the Arunta people of Australia, and gives a detailed telling of their life styles and their status in the modern world at that time.
