From Leonard Bernstein's library, inscribed to him by James DePriest on the half-title: "To L.B. / To whom I owe my passion for music making, in awe, wonder and abiding affection / Jemmy / Nov 18, 1987". DePriest, a pioneering African-American conductor, was appointed by Bernstein as assistant conductor of the New York Philharmonic in 1965. This was his first book of poems.
