About This Item

Viking Press, New York, 1996. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. preface by author, acknowledgements, sources and index. Black-and-white frontispiece of Joseph Wesbecker. Black coloured boards with silver coloured titles to the spine. Illustrated dustwrapper, showing a medicine capsule filled with money, against a black and brown coloured background with white and black coloured titles to the front panel and black coloured titles to the spine. In 1989 Joseph Wesbecker went into his place of work and in the space of half an hour shot 20 of his coworkers before shooting himself. He had been off from work due to mental disability for the previous 12 months and had been taking the antidepressant medication Prozac. The victim's family's took the makers of Prozac to court for compensation. They lost. "...... but soon -- and shockingly -- came to light that Lilley's [ makers of Prozac ] lawyers had made a secret deal that led to their landmark court victory. Using case documents, interviews and his own coverage of the trial, John Cornwall recreates the tragic life and death of Joe Wesbecker -- a story embedded in the crises of blue-colour life -- and offers a new perspective on the genesis of violence, on the tears in societal safety net that ani pharmacology now seems to fill, and on the struggle, in labs and Law Courts, over the definition of identity itself." -- from the front fold over blurb. A little bumping to the top backstrip edge and rubbing to the book edges. Scuffing to the book panels. Rubbing and creasing to the top dustwraper edge and a little rubbing to the lower dustwraper edge. Rubbing to the dustwraper panels and the remains of the sticker can be seen to the top right-hand corner of the front panel. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. XII, 322 pages, last blank,.
