Dublin: T. Ewing and C. Jenkin, 1775. Second Edition. Leatherbound. Ex library-good. 4 vols.: vi, 371, 726, 362, 739 p. 21 cm. Full tree leather with gilt trim to spines, black and burgundy spine labels. Marbled endpapers, green text block edges. Library labels on spine tails, stamps on a front endpaper in all four volumes. Corners bumped, some cracking to hinges, wear to leather. Chipped spine label on vol. III with slight loss of text. Stain in margin of vol. 1 pp. 130-4, not affecting text.. Small chip in bottom edge of half title in vol. 1.
Title continues: "Being a Series of Reflections on the Situation, Lands, Inhabitants, Revenues, Colonies, and Commerce of This Island. Intended to Shew That we have not as yet approached near the Summit of Improvement, but that it will afford Employment to many Generations before they push to their utmost Extent the natural Advantages of Great Britain." The work is especially remarkable for its numerous practical suggestions. It teems with projects for the construction of harbours, the opening up of new communications by road and canal, and the introduction of new industries. Campbell even proposed that the state should buy up all the waste lands of the country and develop their resources, arable and pastoral.
