Tall 8vo, approximately 255 x 190 mm, 10 x 7½ inches, 21 full page plates, 19 are in colour, 1 double page, 2 in black and white, pages: [8], 1-64, some pages unnumbered, original publisher's red pebble cloth, gilt lettering to spine and upper cover, original coated black endpapers. Spine and lower hinge worn and repaired, spine darkened, covers firmly attached, gilt library name at bottom of spine, covers unevenly darkened and marked, damp staining affecting the outer margin of black and white plates, 5 colour plates are clean, the rest have small pale stain to the outer margin or lower corners, none affect the images, pale offset to a few pages of text, small pale library sramp to Contents page, otherwise a good copy. The Subscription list gives the number of copies sent to each area: Goverment of India 115 copies; Madras 50 copies; Punjab 50 copies; Kashmire 10 copies; Baroda 23 copies etc. MORE IMAGES ATTACHED TO THIS LISTING, ALL ZOOMABLE. London: T. Curtis, 1806. Very good +. This is a hand colored copper plate engraving. The print measures 5.5 x 9.25 inches, with a plate mark of 4.5 x 7.75. It is a beautiful decorative antique print expertly colored and beautifully composed. This particular plate has been trimmed at the rough edge. Curtis' work was the first study of British flora, and artists contributing to the opus included James Sowerby, Sydenham Teak Edwards, Francis Sansom and William Kilburn. "The Botanical Magazine; or Flower-Garden Displayed, is an illustrated publication which began in 1787. The longest running botanical magazine, it is widely referred to by the subsequent name Curtis's Botanical Magazine.
