About This Item

Boston: James R. Osgood and Company, 1873. This handsome edition of the complete poems of Scott is in Very Good condition (click on photo). The book is bound in a forest green cloth with a decorative gilt shield on the front panel and die-stamped gilt spine titles. The book features all-edge gilt and beveled edges. The spine tips show rubbing and fraying. The book has chocolate brown endpapers and a portrait of Scott with printed signature as a frontis, with tissue guard, as well as 11 other full-page illustrations throughout the book. The text is set in double columns with a red line border. The text is clean and bright throughout, with only minimal foxing, mainly on the blank pages opposite the acidic endpapers. There are no signatures or inscriptions from former owners. There is one pressed flower, which I've left. (What's a Victorian poetry book without at least one 134-year-old pressed flower?). The book measures 5 1/4 by 6 7/8 inches and includes 487 pages. . Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
