Philadelphia, PA: D. Appleton and Company, 1845. 1st Thus. HB. Very Good. 16mo. This lovely volume was published in 1845 and covered in leather. The leather, having been worn, was replaced around 1920 by a renowned bookbinder in Washington, DC. The pages are thick and sturdy with some foxing, mostly concentrated on the tissue-covered engravings, which are still lovely. The frontispiece faces another illustration on the half-title page and is missing its tissue; a small sheet of vellum has been loosely inserted for protection. The book is clean and tight, with no signatures or underlining, and the cover would be pristine, if it were not for a small opening in the crease of the upper area fo the back cover. Shelved in completely smoke-free environment. Promptly shipped in a box, not a loose plastic envelope and always shipped with confirmation/tracking..

Minor thumb marking, foxing and noticeable tanning to pages and plates. Visibly more prominent to text block edges, pastedowns and free endpapers. Light cracking and staining to gutters and hinges but binding remains firm. Boards have minor corner bumping and edgewear with mild staining, tanning and scuffing overall. Spine has heavier tanning with soft crushing to ends. Lettering remains bright and clear. Book has a slight forward lean.
