Small 8vo. small 8vo lxxvi,244pp Title on spine and upper cover: Beattie; title on half-title: The Poems of Beattie. Later issue; uncredited editor, with a biographical memoir by Alexander Dyce. Series on half-title: The Aldine Edition of the British Poets; series on upper cover: The Aldine Poets. Printed at The Chiswick Press. VG in green cloth, stamped and decorated black and gilt, plain endpapers (slight fraying to head and foot of spine; slight rubbing to covers and corners; slight internal browning, particularly to endpapers) . Beattie (1735-1803), Scottish poet and pedagogue, noted for his two volumes of 'The Minstrel' (1771 and 1774); master at Aberdeen grammar school (1758) and professor of moral philosophy and logic at Marischal College (1760) ; also known for his friendship with Thomas Gray.few b/w decs.
