London: George Harrap & Co , 1944. An interesting piece of WWII memorabilia from the British North African campaign with a very interesting foreword by General Montgomery including his facsimile signature. The foreword expresses a sympathetic side of Monty not always acknowledged by his critics. These poems were written by soldiers in the British 8th Army during the campaign. Someone has written neatly opposite the last poem: "Nothing is ugly when seen through half a mile of sunshine." Very good+ (cocked, otherwise near fine) in very good-- dust jacket (worn at top of spine with a closed tear and small missing chip, minor wear at rest of spine--see photos). Published during the war with wartime paper shortages and restrictions. Twenty-seven poems in all, 46 pages. . 1st Edition. Hard Cover.
