Original salmon cloth, covers stamped in blind, spine lettered in gilt, slight fading of spine and edges, cream endpapers, partially unopened. A fine copy. First edition. 1 vols. 12mo. Inscribed. Inscribed "From the Author" on the endpaper. Beresford-Hope, as he was later called, having taken his step-father's surname on inheriting his estate, was a politician and writer. He was the youngest son of Thomas Hope, the author. He began, in partnership with John Douglas Cook "The Saturday Review of Politics, Literature, Science and Art" and was a successful author with the writing of his novel "Strickly Tied Up." He was very active politically, seriously interested in archeology and the Church of England and a frequent author.
