William Heinemann Ltd, 1957. Hardcover. Good. 1957. First Edition. 191 pages. No dust jacket. This is an ex-Library book. Black cloth with silver gilt lettering. Previous owner's stamp to bottom right corner of front free endpaper. Boots library rebind with associated stickers and markings to pages and boards. Pages remain bright with minimal tanning and foxing. Text is clear. Heavier to text block edges. Binding remains firm. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Book has a slight forward lean. Mottling to boards and spine. Faint water marks overall. Book has a slight forward lean.
Synopsis
One of the twentieth century's master prose stylists, Vladimir Nabokov was born in St. Petersburg in 1899. He studied French and Russian literature at Trinity College, Cambridge, then lived in Berlin and Paris, where he launched a brilliant literary career. In 1940 he moved to the United States, and achieved renown as a novelist, poet, critic, and translator. He taught literature at Wellesley, Stanford, Cornell, and Harvard. In 1961 he moved to Montreux, Switzerland, where he died in 1977.
