Tan linen over boards with gilt print in panel on spine; 576 pages; solid binding; top corners have significant bumps; no internal marks; no chips, tears or creases; pages are yellowed at perimeter; boards show moderate soiling with a water mark at the spine head - there is no apparent internal damage; boards are yellowed at perimeter and spine is heavily tanned; pages 262 and 263 are heavily tanned from the storage of 2 newspaper front pages: The first is The Detroit News dated Monday, October 31. 1938; fourth edition; headlines read (all referring to the radio premier of "War of the Worlds": "War Skit on Radio Terrifies Nation"; ensuing articles include: "Radio's Cruel Hoax" and ''Listeners Flee 'Mars Invasion'. The second front page is The Detroit Free Press, Monday, October 31, 1938 No. 180, final edition; the headlines read: "Fake Radio War Report Spreads Panic in East"; the ensuing articles include "Hundreds Flee in Terror to Escape 'Men of Mars' After Story of Invasion" and "Air Sketch Spreads Fright Through Homes in Detroit" with photo of Orson Welles.
