Spine professionally restored at head and tail. Small shelf label on spine. Ludvig Helms was the first Manager in Sarawak for the Borneo Company. He provides an important account of the first Rajah and his activities, and especially a corrective account of the latter's nephew, Captain Brooke Brooke, who was dispossessed of his right to the succession to the Raj by his uncle. A vivid eye-witness description of the Chinese uprising of 1857 adds to the significance of this prime source for the early history of Sarawak.
