Minneapolis: Press of Hahn and Harmon Company, 1914. First Edition. Large Octavo. 184 pages, illustrated with tissue guards present, printed on beautiful handmade paper from Italy (with the watermarks visible). After receiving his degree from Genesee University (later Syracuse University), he became an expert on woods and was devoted to education but 1870 he began to become one of the most important land owners of great untapped forest lands in Minnesota and Wisconsin. The Northwest he writes about are the beautiful forests in the Upper Midwest. His expertise on timbers allowed him to make a vast fortune and he prepared this book using the finest printing and handmade paper to produce a classic on what he called "the pioneer woodsman".Bound in 3/4 brown strait grained morocco raised bands gilt, lettering gilt and other compartments stamped in gilt, top edge gilt all others uncut. spine uniformly faded. A handsome copy, internally fresh.
