In two volumes. engraved frontispieces, engraved vignette title page and regular title page printed in red and black, 480 and 476pp., color map of Palestine, with numerous engravings on steel and wood from original drawings by Harry Fenn and J.D. Woodward. The author was assisted by the most eminent Palestine explorers; Rev. Canon Tristram, Lieut. Condor, Miss M.E. Rogers, Dr. Selah Merrill and others, each who have written chapters on the areas they traveled. This work was first published serially from 1881 to 1883. The Eastern Mediterranean regions are so significant to the history of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, these books became very popular in British and American view books. The illustrations are magnificently rich and very detailed. A very handsome set bound in 3/4 brown morocco over brown pebble grained cloth, upper board lettered and decorated in gilt, raised bands with compartments lettered and ruled in gilt, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers, no names or bookplates, a near fine set with just a hint of toning to page edges and a bit of wear to one corner.
