Nursing Scrapbook from Hawaii in 1943 to the Government Hospital in Springfield, Missouri in the period just after World War II. There are 361 black-and-white photographs of which 147 are of nurses, others are nurses with their beaus, hospitals, other family. The key nurses are identified from the newspaper articles featuring them. Hawaii WWII/Springfield, Missouri Gov Rehab. Photographs are largely of nurses involved with physical therapy beginning in Hawaii at the North Sector General Hospital at Schofield Barracks, Oahu (circa, 1943-1948) or later at the Government Hospital in Springfield, Missouri/Laid in is a photograph of Ede Gaston (taken by the Gaston Galleries of Honolulu). Ten black and white photographs of the nurses assisting wounded veterans. (pages 6-7) with newspaper accounts of physical therapy which identifies the nurses and doctors. The 219th General Hospital (North Sector), Schofield Barracks, Newspaper article, pasted in that identifies the physical therapist, on opposite pages the five nurses are identified 1st Lt. Betsy Evelyn Cobb (who served in Hawaii,[later in Korea and the VA Hospital in Nashville], 2nd Lt. Ellen E. Holcomb who served 1938-1946 in Hawaii), 2nd Lt. Patricia W. Garrett who graduated from Stanford University in 1943 and went directly to Hawaii; 1st Lt. Jean Hoffman, Capt. Leilia M. Henricks. Captain Hendricks is shown treating solder in the arm whirlpool bath. Lt. Cobb is guiding the Diathermy machine over the injured back of a wounded soldier. Two Black-and-white photographs of these five women together occurs on facing page 9 and throughout the scrapbook. 11, p. 28 ( 3 photographs Hoffman, Holcombe, Hendricks) ; 31 and 33 Cobb and Hendricks; also Wise, Mary Van Deusen Rogers, Olga Luchton (31-32), Others identified throughout the scrapbook; Sarah Davis, at N.A.T.T.C. (Norman, Oklahoma), Carol Elaine Gross (officer rank not noted), bridal party identified, Lt. Bob Antell (best man) Dutch (the bride, not further identified), Ed (my man), Maid of Honor (and one who wrote details on verso of photograph, noting spots of Champaign on her dress), Laid in is play: Jumpin Jupiter, a new musical comedy, put on by the U.S. Army Special Services in 1945 opened October 23 at the Roosevelt High School Auditorium in Oahu, produced by the Soldier Show Section. Hal David wrote some of the lyrics who later collaborated with Bert Bacharach with Walk on By, I Say A Little Prayer, Do You Know the Way to San Jose (Dionne Warwick), the Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, What's New Pussycat and many others. Apparently, RCA Victor recorded this production, but the biographer of Hal David was unable to locate copies in any music libraries. Nurses of the 219th on the basketball court newspaper noting players who are identified in this scrapbook: Jean Hoffman, Olga Luchton and others-on verse P. 35 are four black and white photographs of the players.
