About This Item

Michigan, 1910. Hardcover. Near Fine. Oblong octavo measuring 10.5" x 7". String-tied black cloth over flexible paper boards. Contains 32 black and white or sepia toned gelatin silver photographs measuring around 5" x 7" with captions. Good only album lacking the front board with waviness to the boards and some spotting with near fine photographs.

A photo album from Michigan with snapshots taken around 1910 in various towns throughout the state including Bay City, Hart, and Round Lake. The album begins with a photo of a printing office, Arenac printing, which eventually became the Arenac County Independent and is still printing newspapers today. The photo shows four people posing outside of the printing office under a sign which reads, "Arenac Independent Job Printing." The inside of the office is seen on the next page with the same people posing by the printing press. A Michigan family is seen on a sailboat in Saginaw Bay and in front of their house. Another photo shows a plum orchard near Hart, Michigan depicting a well composed image of the landscape of the orchard. More of Hart is seen including a large church and a family and their home. A photo of Round Lake is also featured here as well as Bay City with a photo of the fire house, train station, and a hotel. Also featured in the Bay City section are photos of a lake barge and a tug boat and a pavilion on the beach. One photo of two men shows them standing on a large dune on Lake Michigan; another photo shows a lighthouse on the lake. The final two photos show people in a peach orchard and the plum orchard that was featured earlier.

A wonderful collection of early photography of Michigan.
