New York, NY: Covici Friede, 1931. First Edition. Hardcover. Good. Signed by Author. First edition. Tall quarto. Limited to 1500 numbered and signed copies, this is number 1082. Good, spine evenly sunned and worn at head and heel. No dust jacket. Lettering on spine rubbed but whole. Front board Deco design in silver is bright. Page 65, torn in half and taped with yellowing binder's transparent tissue tape. Text page only, does not affect a plate. An Art-Deco masterpiece. John Vassos undertook his most ambitious work in this volume. 'Phobia' was hailed as a masterpiece of psychological insight by doctors and the general public alike, this 1931 creation by a leading Art Deco designer offers striking depictions of 24 common (and not so common) fears. An artist's DSM. A leader in the modernist art movement, with RCA, Vassos was instrumental in the original designs of the earliest televisions, mid-century microphones, radios, consoles etc. His industrial art is among most important of the 20th century.
