In two volumes, 462 and 531pp. Fifth printing of this classic work which demonstrates the author's masterful knowledge of the Jewish and early Christian thought and its impact on Islamic thought. One of the most important studies every produced on the subject of Philo and his influence. Wolfson was an orthodox Jew but had a mastery of Plato and early Christian thought. His work is central in many themes in the humanities and religion. His understanding of allegorical thought as applied to Abraham his foundational in its application to Biblical hermeneutics. How he works with not only the New Testament but virtually all of the Patristic fathers indicates his breadth of reading and comprehension. Scholars may debate some of his conclusions (see Paul Oskar Kristeller) but never his great scholarship. A clean bright set bound in dark blue cloth lettered in gilt, spines lettered and ruled in gilt.
