Very good. Mild edgewear and touch of scuffing, with Volume I spine a bit rough and a tad lighter, though spine giltstamping on both volumes bright and nice; internally tight and near fine; 1876 ownership signature on inner flyleaf of each volume. A tight and handsome first edition of the deluxe moroccan binding, with gilt strong and lovely. Generally considered one of the greatest presidential memoirs ever, penned near the end of his life and published very shortly after his death by Mark Twain's son-in-law. NEVINS II, 59.
