This booklet, sold for a penny as a fundraiser for the Mansion House Fund (at the suggestion of the Daily Express) and with a short note of explanation from David Burnett, then Lord Mayor, dated February 14, 1913, tells the story of Captain Robert Falcon Scott, who planted the British flag at the South Pole on January 17, 1912 but perished on the return trip. It includes a map of the journey and photos of Scott and his four companions, as well as a reprint of Scott's last message, dated March 25, 1912. "These rough notes and our dead bodies must tell the tale." Built between 1739 and 1752, the Mansion House is the official residence of the Lord Mayor of London.
