The binding is lightly bumped and the top & bottom edges of the covers are slightly soiled with some tiny black marks. The dust jacket is lightly soiled with the top edge of its rear panel slightly chipped. There is a crease to its front flap. xv, [i] & 222 pages. Illustrated with 10 folding color plates and full-page & textual illustrations in black & white. The top edge of the book is foxed & there are a few small stains to the fore-edge & bottom edge. Good. <p>First English edition.<p>A study of the earliest days of deep-sea voyaging. Translated from the French by Len Ortzen.
