Photo shows a few small foxing spots and there are two tiny edge tears in the unclipped DJ (Price $2.00). Cyrenus Peel is an old sea captain whose daughter, Lettice, is reputed to be an even better trader than he was. Two other Peel offspring are married and already dreaming about inheriting the old man's money. Two young men are after Lettice, an up-and-comer named David Hooker and an artist, Farley Crowell, whose ambitions are dismissed by Cyrenus as "paintin' cows for a living." 309 pp.. First Printing.
