A former policeman, truck driver, and seaman, in 1986 he began his Redwall series. The series was highly successful and Jacques went on to publish 14 books in the series. The book includes related ephemera: A 2001 NYT interview By Doreen Carvajaral of Brian Jacques. From the interview Jacques states, "'My values are not based on violence. My values are based on courage, which you see time and time again in my books. A warrior isn't somebody like Bruce Willis or Arnold Schwarzenegger. A warrior can be any age.
