New York: Communist Political Association, 1944. First Edition. Quarto (27cm). Printed card wrappers; 142pp. Mild external wear and soil, but a well-preserved, Very Good or better copy. A key wartime document, containing the proceedings of the founding convention of the Communist Political Association, formed in the wake of the Teheran Conference and the dissolution of the Communist Party, USA under the direction of Earl Browder. In his opening address, Browder famously stated that "...Capitalism and Socialism have begun to find their way to peaceful coexistence and collaboration in the same world" - a sentiment perhaps reinforced by the presence of a U.S. War Bonds advertisement on the rear wrapper of this volume! In any event, Browder's post-Teheran triumphalism would be short-lived; by late 1944 he came under direct attack from the Comintern for his statements, and by 1945 he had bee expelled from the Party, the CPA dissolved, and the CPUSA once again reconstituted, now under the leadership of… Read More
