About This Item

London: W Young, 1787. No Binding. Near Fine. pp 4, A four page auction catalogue from 1787 for part of the estates of Robert Henley, late Earl of Northington. This is made up of title page and three pages of conditions and lot descriptions followed by a printed docket title on final leaf. The catalogue has been annotated by the lawyer John Thomas Batt with the prices achieved. Robert Henley, second Earl of Northington (1747-1786), was a politician and Lord Lieutenant of Ireland who corresponded extensively with his friend the lawyer John Thomas Batt who subsequently took charge of the disposal of his estate after his early death. Northington's primary residence was The Grange, Northington, a building which survives as a Grade I listed English Heritage property and the home of Grange Park Opera. These documents record the sale of Northington's estates. Batt took charge of disposing of his friend's estate on behalf of Northington's sisters. Near fine, a little browning to final leaf. Apparently unrecorded. Near Fine 1787
