Superb and handsome first editions of the first seven volumes of this hefty twelve-volume set. A massive scholarly achievement chronicling the work of this American scientist (1797-1878) who served as first secretary of the Smithsonian Institution. Volume 1 covers "December 1797 -- October 1832: The Albany Years," Volume 2 covers "November 1832 -- December 1835: The Princeton Years," Volume 3 covers "January 1836 -- December 1837: The Princeton Years," Volume 4 covers "January 1838 -- December 1840: The Princeton Years," Volume 5 covers "January 1841 -- December 1843: The Princeton Years," Volume 6 covers "January 1844 -- December 1846: The Princeton Years" and Volume 7 covers "January 1847 -- December 1849: The Smithsonian Years."
