New York: William Edwin Rudge, 1930. First Trade Edition. Octavo. 358pp., folding frontispiece, illustrated with over 200 illustrations. He also includes information on of bank notes forged prior to 1817 in which 300 people were hanged. In the first three months of that year there were 128 prosecutions and by the end of the year thirty-to individuals had been hanged. From January 1st, 1812 to April 10th, 1818, there were 131,331 pieces of paper forged. Sir William Congreve invented the color watermarking process but still there was much work needed to be done to perfect the watermarks in order to prevent forgery. Hunter has presented much knowledge on paper, how it is made, the sizes used, and more. Bound in brown cloth, red spine label gilt, corners just a bit bent. A very good copy.
