About This Item
Iowa City, IA: The State Historical Society of Iowa, 1967. Staple-bound Softcover. Very Good. Pages crisp and clean; stapled binding secure. Soft cover has a line of pale, gray smudging at the left front and another at the right rear, a tiny surface chip at the bottom right front corner, and a little rubbing along the spine, otherwise excellent. 38pp., illustrated in black-and-white. Articles by L. O. Cheever (some autobiographical) about the Annie Wittenmyer Home in Davenport for orphans of soldiers. Mrs. Wittenmyer had been a tireless advocate for health needs of returning soldiers from the Civil War as well as for education, and she was instrumental in founding and expanding the first facility, though she did not live to see it continue through the first world war and beyond.
